In-Glass Pet Door

Installation Experts

Our team at Glass Ontime specialize in installing in-glass pet doors with a focus on safety for both you and your pets.

For this reason we exclusively install pet doors in Grade A Toughened Safety Glass. Even if your current glass is already Grade A Toughened (or tempered), it cannot be cut without shattering or breaking, meaning the entire panel must be replaced. So for this reason we always replace your existing glass.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Initial Measurement: We’ll visit your home to take precise measurements of the glass and discuss the ideal placement for the pet door.
  2. Custom Panel Installation: About two weeks later (longer for double-glazed glass), we’ll return to install a brand-new panel of Grade A Toughened Safety Glass with the pet door perfectly integrated.

NOTE: The cost of your in-glass pet door installation will vary based on the size and glazing type of your existing glass.

Pet Door Buying Guide

frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right size pet door?

The most important factor is your pet’s height and width, not just their breed. Measure:

  • Height: Not just height from the ground but from top of elbow to the top of your pet’s collar. We can always install the pet door to adjust for their height from ground level.
  • Width: The widest part of your pet (usually chest)

Choose a door slightly larger than these measurements so your pet can pass through comfortably. HINT: Some larger breeds need extra space to accommodate extra long limbs.

Breed can be a helpful guide, but it’s not always exact. Dogs of the same breed can vary in size.

For example:

  • A Labrador may need a large door, but some may fit a medium.
  • A Cavoodle could be small or medium depending on their build.

Always measure your pet rather than relying on breed alone.

If your dog is still growing, choose a door based on their expected adult size, not their current size. Installing a door that’s too small means you’ll need to replace it later.

Yes, but comfort is key:

  • Choose a door with a lower step-over height (try the Pet Doors Australia Underbelly Series with it’s scooped flap)
  • Look for lightweight flaps that are easy to push
  • Avoid doors that require jumping or climbing

This helps reduce strain on joints, especially for senior pets.

Select a door based on your largest pet, ensuring all pets can use it comfortably. Smaller pets will still adapt easily to a slightly larger opening. Once again consider the Pet Doors Australia Underbelly Series which has a unique scooped flap design to accommodate little legs.

Weight can indicate size, but it’s less reliable than measurements. Two dogs of the same weight can have very different shapes. Always prioritise height and width measurements. The most important factor is your pet’s body shape.

Some pets take time to adjust. To help:

  • Choose a door with a clear flap
  • Start with training and encouragement
  • Keep the flap taped open initially so your pet gets comfortable using the door. Then let the flap down.

Yes! If you have both cats and dogs, choose a door that suits your largest pet. Cats are usually very adaptable and will often use larger openings without issue.
